Northwest Texas Healthcare System Behavioral Health in Amarillo offers inpatient treatment to children, adolescents, adults and seniors in a secure, therapeutic environment.

We can help patients with:

  • Suicidal thoughts and/or a suicide attempt
  • Major depression
  • Aggression, hostility or uncontrolled anger
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • The need for detoxification from prescription drugs or alcohol
  • The need for rehabilitation from substance abuse
  • Post traumatic stress
  • The need for medication management in a hospital setting

Evaluation

Treatment begins with a thorough diagnosis and evaluation including:

  • Clinical interview
  • Physical examination
  • Social and psychological assessments
  • Therapeutic and/or addictions evaluation

Treatment

The patient will participate in a daily program designed to help them deal with the thoughts, feelings and problems they are experiencing. Some patients may require medication.
Programs can include:

  • Group therapy
  • Family involvement
  • Stress reduction
  • Anger management
  • Dealing with trauma
  • Addiction education
  • Medication education
  • Coping skills training
  • Expressive therapies (including music, art, and other recreational therapies)
  • Substance abuse rehabilitation
  • Hygiene and health education
  • Biofeedback therapy

Each patient will work with social workers, nurses, therapists, and psychiatrists to participate in their discharge planning. This process takes into account all of the patient’s needs. Some patients will step down to a partial or intensive outpatient program and some patients will be discharged home with a specific plan of care.
